There really is something for everyone at Shorter. With over 35 student organizations, 16 athletic teams, intramural events like dodgeball and basketball tournaments, and theater productions, there is always something fun and interesting happening at Shorter.
While classroom instruction is important, you can't discover your path in life without real responsibilities and relationships. Shorter offers dozens of extracurricular activities, groups, and resources that help you explore the boundaries beyond the books.

DEPARTMENTAL ORGANIZATIONS
Ad Club-Shorter has joined the University of Georgia in becoming one of the two Ad Clubs in the state of Georgia. The Ad Club promotes competition between schools at a regional and national level to develop an advertising campaign for a particular corporation.
American Chemical Society (ACS)-promotes the study of chemical science and professionalism in chemical sciences. Faculty Advisor - Dr. Van Aardt
Art Student’s League - promotes appreciation of art and the display of student art work. Faculty Advisor - Crystal McBrayer
Association for Computing Machinery - Faculty Advisor - Anthony Nichols
Communication Club (NCASC-SC) - an opportunity for communication majors to prepare for future endeavors. Faculty Advisor - Dr. Sabrena Parton
Eta Pi Sigma (History Club) - promotes contact with current historians and visits to historical attractions. Faculty Advisor - Dr. James Scarry
Georgia Music Teacher Association Student Chapter - promotes professional development of students interested in the field of music education.
Mu Alpha Theta (Math Club) - promotes understanding and appreciation of the use of math in everyday life.
Mu Phi Epsilon (National Music Organization) - an international professional sorority for the advancement of music. Faculty Advisors - Dr. Matthew Hoch and Dr. Martha Shaw
National Science Teacher Association (NSTA) - promotes professional development of students interested in the field of science education.
Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia (National Music Organization) - a national professional fraternity, which promotes the cause of music and fosters friendship among those with an interest in music. Faculty Advisor - Dr. Matthew Hoch
Pre-Professional Allied Health Club - promotes knowledge of allied health and professional opportunities in the field. Faculty Advisors - Dr. Craig Allee and Dr. Van Aardt
Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) - cultivates a favorable and mutually advantageous relationship between students and professional public relations practitioners.
Shorter Players (Theatre Club) - promotes understanding and appreciation of drama and provides training and experience in acting and play production.
Speech Communication Association Conference (SCASC) - fosters professional development and interaction opportunities in the communication field.

Academic Bowl - Faculty Advisor - Dr. Charles Pearson
Shorter Diamonds Dance Team - Promotes interest in and good spirit at athletic events. The team will perform during football and basketball games. Try-outs required. Advisor - Whitney Mosley
Dance Team try-outs will be held on Wednesday, September 2 and Thursday, September 3, 2009. Applications must be received by2 pm on Wednesday, September 2 in order to try-out.

Fitton Activities Board (FAB) - Provides entertainment opportunities such as films, dances, concerts, and special events for students. Advisor - Emily Messer
S.A.V.E (Students Advocating Volunteer Efforts) -
Promotes volunteerism for Shorter students, in our local community. Students will be able to share their own ideas and thoughts on where our volunteer efforts would most useful. In addition there will be options to choose from already planned out. Freshman students are particularly encouraged to become active since the FYS class now requires volunteerism.
Make it easy on yourself and come to us for everything you need. The community will be extremely grateful for the help, and you, the students will benefit in many ways as well. The student meets new people, creates connections, adds resume builders, and most of all, feels good about themselves and shows the community that Shorter College is a wonderful, intelligent organization. - Sallie Samples
Shorter College Model United Nations - SCMUN strives to expand the public awareness of the importance of the UN by sponsoring on-campus MUN conferences and International fairs and participating in multi-cultural events.
ShorterCollege International Society - Facilitates the orientation of new international students and encourages cultural exchanges. Faculty Advisors - Linda Palumbo-Olzanski and Dr. Pat DeWitt
Shorter Extreme Team - provides an opportunity for students to participate in outdoor activities. Faculty Advisor - Dr. Alan Dutch
Shorter N.E.T. (Network for Ethnic Transition) - Promotes cultural awareness and diversity among the Shorter College community. Faculty Advisor - Dr. Barbara Knox
Shorter Orientation Staff (SOS) - Assists the Office of Student Activities in conducting activities for Summit sessions, check-in/check-out for camps and conferences, and Welcome Week. Interview process required. Advisor - Emily Messer
Shorter Relations Society (SRS) - Assists Admissions in promoting pride and communicating an increased understanding of Shorter as public relations representatives for the College. Interview process required. Advisors - Joan Blackwelder and Stephanie Brooks
Student Government Association (SGA) - Allocates student activity fee funds, appoints students to faculty committees, and helps promote positive relationships between students, faculty, and administration. Seven senators are elected by the incoming freshman class after fall classes begin; the rest are elected by the entire student body at the end of the previous school year.
