Who can play? All currently enrolled Shorter University students and faculty and staff members can participate in Intramural Sports. If asked, participants must be willing to present their Shorter University ID card to Intramural Staff before participating in each Intramural contest. Do I need to be an expert? No, Intramural Sports are designed for participants of all skill levels to play. When possible, teams/participants will be grouped into divisions of similar skill levels. Please be aware that you participate at your own risk. How much does it cost? There is no charge to participate in Shorter University Intramural Sports. When/where are intramural sports held? Most intramural sports are held during the week in the afternoon, early evening, and late nights. Most activities take place on campus; however, we do have a few sports that are held off-campus. Intramural Softball and Flag Football are held off campus at Alto Park in West Rome. Bowling is held at Floyd Bowling and Amusement in East Rome. For competition days, times and locations, please take a look at the Intramural Sports Schedule below. May varsity or former varsity athlete participate? Yes, current and former varsity athletes can participate in Intramural Sports with the one exception: current varsity athletes cannot participate in the related intramural sport that they play for the university. If you are on the roster, you are NOT allowed to play. NO exceptions. Former varsity athletes are allowed to play in their related sport. Create, join, or visit a Shorter Intramural Sports team by visiting the Office of Student Life for more information. Individuals or teams interested in participating must bring their roster to the office by the appointed deadline.
