Shorter students lend a helping hand to a Trion family in need The family of nine reside on Marsh Avenue in Trion and were flooded out of their home last week after heavy downpours pelted the area. Hearing that the family needed help, and working with the Rome-Floyd County Habitat for Humanity, the Shorter BCM stepped up to the plate.

Loving the Locals: Students on mission around the globe By Tracy Batchelor Glancing over the packing list, she took a deep breath and re-read the trip description for the 50 th time. “Mission service is real life discipleship. It’s hard. It’s tiring. It takes a servant’s heart and a sacrificial spirit. It will be one of the greatest experiences of your life, but it is not about you .” Had the time finally arrived? Was she ready? Did she really want to use her break to serve people in a foreign country? Zipping her suitcase shut, she stepped out in faith and into a life of mission work. No, this is not the story of one specific individual. Instead, many Shorter students and alumni recall similar moments when they packed their bags for one of the college’s mission opportunities. Shorter students have been assigned to six locations around the world by the Georgia Baptist Collegiate Missions. Spring Break 2007: A Time to Serve Twenty-eight Shorter students, 2006 alumnus Jonathan Shaw and BCM campus minister, the Rev. David Roland, participated in construction and worship opportunities in New Orleans from March 10-17, 2007. During this time they provided general framing, roofing and siding work, while also “mudding out” other homes still requiring clean up from Hurricane Katrina.
