2012 SUMMER MISSIONS

Mission Arlington
Arlington, Texas 

We will be taking a large group there to minister with children and youth through the Mission Center at Mission Arlington.  Every afternoon we will work with their ministry called “Rainbow Express”.  The students will be leading Bible studies, doing puppet shows, leading music, and playing games with the children which live in the apartment complexes we will be working at in Arlington.

During the day, we will help sort clothes, unload donated items, work in their food pantry and possibly do some painting or cleaning.  The responsibilities can change at any moment.  We will have a group of 50 going with at least 30 going from Shorter.

International World Changers
Southeast Asia

Rev. David Roland will be leading an International World Changer team to Southeast Asia this summer, July 18-30, 2012.  International World Changers offers student teams and individuals the opportunity for a hands-on missions experience. The International Mission Board (IMB), of the Southern Baptist Convention, sponsors this ministry. This team will be working on college campuses and leading an English camp for children and youth.  Students will also be leading worship services in a new church plant located close to one of the universities.

SendMeNow Missions

This summer we will have Shorter students going on mission with SendMeNow missions, a ministry of the Collegiate Ministries with the Georgia Baptist Convention.  These students will be going to Mexico, New York City, Camp Pinnacle of Clayton, GA, New Orleans, Ridgecrest, NC, & Americus, GA.  We also have students serving on a mission teams to Uganda & Southeast Asia this summer.  Another Shorter student, Crystal Lyons, will be serving as a semester missionary this fall in Uruguay, South America.

Hands On

In the fall of 2012, Shorter student Crystal Lyons will be participating in a mission trip with “Hands On”. Hands On is a semester-long mentored missions experience. Crystal was one of four students selected by the Collegiate Ministries Missions Committee.  She will be serving in Uruguay beginning in the fall.  Please pray for Crystal as she will also be serving this summer in New York City.  Crystal is an International Studies major and a Spanish minor.

Serving with Hands On will allows students to:

• Help people in spiritual and physical need
• Learn from experienced international missionaries
• Explore and investigate future service as a missionary
• Learn to boldly and sensitively share Christ
• Experience the joys and challenges of serving in another culture

Hands On values:

• TEAMWORK: Hands On missionaries serve on a team with other Hands On missionaries.
• MENTORING: As a Hands On missionary, you will be mentored and discipled by experienced IMB missionaries.  
• DISCOVERY: Participants are challenged to seriously seek God's long-term calling for their life.
• SHARING CHRIST VERBALLY: All participants are trained and given opportunities to share Christ verbally with non-Christians.
• STARTING NEW CHURCHES: Hands On missionaries partner with IMB missionaries to lead people to Christ, disciple new believers, and start new churches.
