The Shorter College Preparatory Department in the Arts offers lesson in Piano, Voice, Kindermusik Village, Kindermusik Our Time, Kindermusik Imagine That!, and Kindermusik Young Child. Lessons are taught to students of all ages and levels in a variety of settings including classes, group lessons and private instruction. Shorter College is please to offer this opportunity to the Rome area.

CURRICULUM
Piano
Piano lessons are offered in both private and group settings. Student teachers are Shorter piano majors who have completed the piano pedagogy course. The Coordinator of the Preparatory Department supervises them. Some lessons will be taught by qualified graduates of Shorter, who are designated as Staff Teachers.
Private and Group Lessons
Groups of four students are formed according to age and experience. The students will have one group lesson of 40 minutes per week, taught by a faculty member and student teacher, and one 30 minute private lesson taught by the student teacher. Times to be arranged. Fee is $253.
Private Lessons
Fees for the entire semester (14 weeks) range from $245 to $367.
Voice
Voice lessons are offered in a private setting for older teens and adults. Student teachers chosen from Shorter voice majors who have completed the vocal pedagogy course and will be supervised by a member of the college faculty. Some lessons will be taught by qualified graduates of Shorter, who are designated as Staff Teachers.
The voice lessons will cover the fundamental principles of tone production, including breath control and resonance, through the medium of such exercises and songs as may fit the student's particular need. Fees for the entire semester (14 weeks) range from $245 to $367.
Kindermusik®
Kindermusik is a unique program of music learning and enjoyment that nurtures the total development of the child and is designed to facilitate children's exploration of their world through music. Kindersmusik will:
- offer joyful experiences of music and movement
- nurture critical learning periods in your child's brain
- enhance your child's coordination and physical development
- prepare your child for instrument study
Instructor Mrs. Sandra Yeargan is certified and trained in Kindermusik.
Kindermusik Village™
For newborns through 1-1/2 years: for lap babies, crawlers, and walkers accompanied by a parent or caregiver. Fee is $100 per semester plus supply fee.
Kindermusik Our Time™
For ages 18 months to 3 years. Kindermusik Our Time brings the joy of music and movement to the lives of parents or other caregivers and their children. Fee of $100 per semester plus supply fee.
Kindermusik Imagine That!™
For ages 3 to 4 years. In this program, each lesson is designed for a maximum of eight children attending, unaccompanied by an adult. Parents, caregivers, and siblings are invited to join the class for a time of informal music making at the end of each lesson. The weekly lessons provide an opportunity for singing and vocal development, movement, listening, playing of simple instruments, and exploring musical concepts, all at a developmentally appropriate level for young children. Fee is $110 per semester plus supply fee.
Kindermusik Young Child™
For ages 4 to 7 years. Kindermusik Young Child is a four-semester curriculum offering a structured, sequential, and flexible approach to teaching music to groups of children.
Fee is $120 per semester. A one-time supply fee will buy a glockenspiel, bag, folder with stickers and artwork, rhythm sticks, and game bag for each child. Each semester thereafter, the fee will be the cost for the folder and additional instruments.
POLICIES AND FEES
Registration Fee
A $15 fee must accompany each application. One $15 fee per student covers any single or multiple registration for the year. Fees quoted are for a 14-week semester unless otherwise indicated. Registration fees are not refunded or deducted from the tuition fee.
Tuition
Tuition fees are due at the beginning of the semester and are not refundable. Fees vary due to each teacher's qualifications and education background. A permit to study will be issued with payment of fees. The permit must be presented to the teacher before lessons will be taught. A late fee of $15 will be charged after the 5th of the month.
Missed Lessons
Two missed private lessons will be made up if the teacher receives notification 24 hours in advance. Class lessons are not made up, however, assignments will be mailed to students.
Practice
Parents are expected to cooperate with the Preparatory Department by encouraging students to maintain regular practice in their daily schedules.
