||Cynthia Wohlschlager (Zwischen-fach) Recent performances include Madame De Croissy from Poulenc’s Dialogues of the Carmelites, alto soloist in Bach’s St. Matthew Passion with the Tuscarawas Philharmonic, Handel’s Deuches Arien, Jommelli’s Magnificat, and Anfossi’s Marian Litany with Singers Companye. Performances have taken Cynthia to Italy, Switzerland, Austria, and Germany. A native of northeastern Ohio, she has performed operas in area schools through Opera Cleveland on Tour and The Akron Concert Society. She was a featured soloist at the Spoleto Music Festival in Italy for the Concert of the Midnight Hour and won an opportunity to sing in Graz, Austria under the conductor Edoardo Müller.
Recital and concert venues include the French Society of Cleveland, the Tuesday Musical Club at the Akron Art Museum, the CIM Women’s Committee Recital Series, the Canton John MacDowell Club, Christmas concerts with the Ashtabula Area Orchestra, and the Jefferson Arts Council Concert Series, among others. She has appeared with the Duke Symphony Orchestra in performances of Le Nozze di Figaro and Hansel and Gretel.
Cynthia enjoys working on new music. She recently performed and recorded the one woman surround sound concert story Rahab by MacDowell Fellow Jesse Ayers. The work won the Boston Metro Opera Concert Award. She has also performed Dr. Ayers’s song cycle The Prayers of Anguish.
Ms. Wohlschlager is a recipient of the O.D. Taliferro Opera Scholarship and has won the Max Berman Award for Outstanding Vocal Performance, The Tuesday Musical Club Scholarship Competition and The Dewey and Mary Gilley Memorial Award for Distinguished Opera Performance.
Ms. Wohlschlager maintains an active studio that has won numerous competitions, professional engagements, recording contracts, and summer festival opportunities. Her students have taken first place in the Schloss Mirabel Competition in Saltsburg, Austria, first place Arden J. Yockley Award in Tuesday Musical Club’s competition, winners in VOCI Scholarship Competition, Grand Prize of the Cleveland Pops Orchestra Jean L. Petitt Scholarship Competition, and have been named finalist in the Classical Singer Regional Competition. Ms. Wohlschlager is the Coordinator of Vocal Studies and Artistic Director of Opera Workshop at Malone University, teaches voice for The Cleveland Institute of Music, and is on the voice faculty of the Sessione Senese per la Musica et L'Arte in Siena, Italy.
