I
'd like to welcome you personally to one of the finest Schools of the Arts in the southeast! Whether it's the success of a student who is singing with an opera company or teaching music in a classroom or a church, one who is working in animation with Disney, or a student who is acting and singing in a musical in London, Shorter students and graduates are our best advertisement.
In the art, music, and theatre departments of the School of the Arts, students can study two- and three-dimensional visual arts, voice performance, piano performance, organ performance, piano pedagogy, music education, church music, musical theatre, and acting.
The art, music, and theatre departments have approximately 200 students in our undergraduate degree programs. All of these students study with faculty members, not graduate students, who are well trained in their disciplines. They benefit from the low teacher to student ratio of 10 to 1; you'll spend more time one-on-one with your professors than you would have ever imagined. Our faculty can give you solid, practical advice about your career in the arts too, because they know what it takes for success.
If you are considering a career in the arts, we can help you turn your passion into a lifelong pursuit. We always welcome you and your parents to visit us on campus. You might want to visit some classes, talk to some students and professors, and see for yourself what Shorter is like. We think this is an excellent place to receive the best education possible in a challenging and supportive environment. We'll look forward to seeing you "on the hill."
Sincerely,
Dr. Alan Wingard
