Shorter College’s Arnold Gallery to host exhibit by Reginald Laurent - 08/27/08
Shorter College’s Arnold Gallery will host an exhibit of works by guest artist Reginald Laurent from Sept. 2 through Oct. 2. The exhibit titled “Inner Visions” is open to the public at no charge; gallery hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Laurent will be on campus on Sept. 2 for a reception and artist’s lecture, which begins at 4 p.m. in the gallery.

Shorter College Prepares for Opening of Fall Semester - 08/15/08

Shorter College professor to compete in Beijing’s Paralympics - 08/12/08
Shorter College’s incoming assistant professor of sports management, Dr. Jennifer Ruddell, will leave for Beijing, China, on Wednesday, Aug. 13, to compete in the 2008 Paralympics Games in women’s wheelchair basketball. In the 2004 Paralympic Games in Athens, Greece, Ruddell earned a gold medal for women’s wheelchair basketball with the USA National Team.
The Princeton Review includes Shorter College on its “Best in the Southeast” List - 08/12/08

Fitzsimmons Joins Institutional Advancement Staff at Shorter College - 07/24/08
Carrie Fitzsimmons has been hired as a gift officer at Shorter College. In this role, she will be the primary fundraising officer for Shorter’s School of Sciences and Mathematics as well as the School of Education and Social Sciences. She will also be responsible for all student-directed fundraising programs.
Men's Soccer Ranked First Academically in NAIA - 07/22/08
Following the announcement of six sports being named 2007-08 Scholar Teams at Shorter College, men's soccer has received further recognition by being named the highest men's soccer team GPA in the nation.
Shorter College Receives Grant from TG to Fund Scholarships for Residents of the Open Door Children's Home - 07/17/08
Shorter College has received a $23,160 grant from TG for a scholarship program to help neglected or abused children. TG is a public, nonprofit corporation that helps create access to higher education for millions of families and students through its role as an administrator of the Federal Family Education Loan program (FFELP).
Tarrant to Serve as Shorter College Registrar - 07/16/08

Hawks Football Kicks Off "Our Team, Our Town, Our Time" Campaign - 07/15/08
The Shorter College Hawks football team announced the "kick-off" of their new football season ticket campaign on Wednesday: "Our Team, Our Town, Our Time." This is the football team's fourth season and marks the first complete senior class to come through Shorter, most having played since the Hawks' first season in 2004.
Shorter College Announces Promotion of Facilities Management Leadership Team - 07/15/08
Shorter College President Dr. Harold E. Newman today announced the promotion of two members of the college’s facilities management leadership team. Dick Taylor, who had served as director of facilities management, was promoted to assistant vice president of facilities, and Jeff Agan, assistant director of facilities management, was promoted to director of the department.
Shorter Cheerleading Featured in American Cheerleader Magazine - 07/07/08
In the August 2008 edition of American Cheerleader Magazine, the Shorter College Hawks and Lady Hawks co-ed program has been featured as "the next go-to cheer school." American Cheerleader is the first and largest national teen magazine dedicated to covering all aspects of sideline and competitive cheerleading.

With seven top 20 finishes from its spring sports teams, Shorter has just been ranked 21st in the country in the Director's Cup rankings, released today by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA).

On the third and final day of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics' Men's Track and Field National Championship, the Shorter College Hawks finished overall 10th in the nation with 28 total points.

In the 200 meter dash of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics' Women's Track National Championship, K'Ianca Dupree and took second place, helping to land the Lady Hawks a 15th place finish in only their second year of existence.

of the Buffalo Funds Five Star NAIA Champions of Character Award winner. This is

Former Shorter College men's soccer star Ciaran Traquair has now entered into the world of professional soccer playing for the Mississippi Brilla. Shorter Chorale's Tour to Italy Includes Performances at The Vatican and St. Mark's Cathedral - 05/13/08

Women's Golf Receive At-Large Bid to Nationals - 05/12/08
The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) released the qualifiers for the 14th Annual NAIA Women's Golf National Championship, with the Shorter College Lady Hawks receiving an at-large bid. The tournament will be held at Lake San Marcos Country Club in San Diego, Calif., May 20-23, 2008.
Softball to Play in NAIA National Championships May 16-21 - 05/12/08
Following an end-of-season ranking at No. 7 in the nation, the Shorter College Lady Hawks softball team will return to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics' National Softball Championship for the second straight year, held May 16-21 in Decatur, Ala. Shorter received the fourth at-large bid to advance.

In the weekly softball awards, Jessica Sanders has been named SSAC Player of the Week, following a 6-0 week in which the Shorter Lady Hawks captured their second consecutive regular season softball title.
Lady Hawks Softball Repeat as SSAC Champs - 04/19/08
The Lady Hawks softball team can now call themselves SSAC champions. Following a 10-9 and 5-0 win over Faulkner University, Shorter has claimed the number one seed in the SSAC tournament beginning on Thursday at the Alto Park Softball Complex in Rome.

Munson Named SSAC Softball Pitcher of the Week - 03/17/08
In the Southern States Athletic Conference's first selections for softball awards, Shorter College's Libby Munson was named Pitcher of the Week. Munson went 6-0 for the No. 7 ranked Lady Hawks, averaging 6.4 strikeouts a game
with a low 1.29 ERA in 38 innings pitched.
Magness to Head First-Ever Shorter College Competitive Cheerleading Team - 03/11/08
Rachel Harrell Magness has been selected to head the first-ever Shorter College competitive cheerleading squad, which will begin competition in the fall of 2008. With the announcement of this new program, Shorter becomes the first private college in the state of Georgia and one of only a few private schools in the entire Southeast to offer full scholarships to competitive cheerleading athletes.
Online journal chronicles experiences of Shorter College group studying in Israel during Spring Break - 03/10/08

Men's Golf Wins Tusculum Invitational - 03/09/08
The Shorter College men's golf team posted a team score of 288 to win the 2008 Tusculum Men's Golf Invitational, Sunday at Link Hills Country. The Hawks won the rain-abbreviated tournament by three shots over host Tusculum and Grand Valley State, who each carded 291.
Softball Stuns Missouri Baptist, 4-3 & 10-0 - 03/09/08
Taking two wins in completely different fashions, the Shorter College softball team swept Missouri Baptist in a non-conference doubleheader Saturday at Alto Park.
Cousin, Dupree Claim All-American Titles - 03/08/08
In the final day of the women's NAIA Indoor Track National Championships, K'Ianca Dupree and Ashley Cousin claimed the title of All-American in the women's 60 meter run. Cousin placed fourth with a time of 7.69 seconds and Dupree was immediately behind in fifth with a time of 7.73 seconds.
Shorter's Brown Takes Home High Jump National Title - 03/07/10
Montagious Brown has another reason to celebrate this week, other than his men's basketball victory over Berry; he can now call himself a National Champion. Brown jumped for six feet, 10.75 inches in the high jump on Friday afternoon to take home first in the Indoor National Championship at East Tennessee State University.

Shorter College Submitting Proposal to Offer Bachelor of Science in Nursing - 02/06/08
Shorter College announced today that it is submitting a proposal to the Georgia Board of Nursing for approval to offer a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. The proposal will be submitted to the state nursing board later this spring with a goal of beginning to offer the first nursing courses in August 2010.

In the sixth men's basketball poll released by the NAIA on Wednesday afternoon, the Shorter College Hawks (14-5, 6-3) received 77 votes to move up to number 23 in the country. This is the first time this season the Hawks have entered the poll.
