Shorter Senior Wins Aria Division at Rome Symphony Orchestra's Concerto competition February 22, 2013 - Michael Loredo, a senior church music major at Shorter University, won first place in the aria division of the Rome Symphony Orchestra’s third annual concerto competition. The competition took place in Shorter’s Brookes Chapel on Sunday, Feb. 17. Loredo, a tenor, performed “Comfort Ye, My People” and “Ev’ry Valley Shall be Exalted” from Handle’s Messiah. Loredo is a student of Rianne Chandler, adjunct instructor of music (voice) at Shorter. This is the first year that the competition has included an aria division. The competition was judged by the Rome Symphony’s music director and conductor, Richard Prior, and Jessica Wu, a member of the Vega Quartet at Emory University.

Loredo and the winners from other divisions will perform their winning pieces at the Rome Symphony Orchestra’s spring concert at the Rome City Auditorium on April 27.
