Shorter piano major to be honored by Atlanta Steinway Society

October 12, 2012 - Diane Turner, a junior piano performance and pedagogy major at Shorter University, is one of two collegiate pianists from Rome who will be honored during an Oct. 21 concert at Peachtree Presbyterian Church, 3434 Roswell Road NW in Buckhead. Diane is a student of Shorter's Artist-in-Residence, Dr. Jerico Vasquez.

The Atlanta Steinway Society will honor the organization’s 2012 Collegiate Scholarship recipients during a recital at 3 p.m. on Oct. 21.

Turner received the society’s 2012 Henry Mancini Trophy in honor of Kiki Van Meter. The McDonough native serves as pianist for Fifth Avenue Baptist in Rome. She has chosen to perform the second and third movements of Beethoven’s Sonata in C Major, Opus 53 ‘Waldstein,” Liszt’s Waldesrauschen, and Fantasia by Benjamin Lees.

Joining Turner on the program will be Lydia Nichols, winner of The Henry Steinway Trophy in honor of Judy C. Godwin. Nichols is a student at Berry College.
