High school graduates awarded Shorter University’s Provost Scholarship

June 6, 2011 - Recent high school graduates were awarded the Shorter University Provost Scholarship. They will begin classes at Shorter in August 2011.

The Provost Scholarship provides tuition for eight semesters, excluding summers. To qualify for this scholarship, a student must hold at least a 3.75 grade point average and an 1100 SAT (Critical Reading & Math) or 24 ACT score. Scholarship recipients must then maintain a 3.0 cumulative grade point average at Shorter. Shorter’s fall semester begins August 18.

Emily Wilson Emily Wilson is the daughter of Jay and Kelly Wilson of Trion. She is a recent graduate of Trion High School, where she was a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Future Business Leaders of America, varsity tennis team, varsity cheerleading and Spanish Club. Her junior year in high school, Emily received the President’s Award and was nominated for Georgia Cheerleader of the Year during her senior year. Emily had a perfect attendance record from kindergarten through 12th grade and was also on the Trion High School Honor Roll all four years. In her community, Emily worked with the Angel Tree for Needy Children, as a Relay for Life volunteer and assisted with the Trion High School Cheerleader Supply Drive for a battered women’s shelter.
   
Taylor Proctor Taylor Proctor is the daughter of Gary and Tina Proctor of Calhoun. She is a recent graduate of Gordon Central High School, where she was a member of the National Honor Society, the Thespian Society and the Tri-M Music Honors Society. In 2010, she was awarded the University of Georgia Certificate of Merit. Proctor has been on the honor roll her entire high school career.
   
Caitlin Bodey Caitlin Bodey is the daughter of Wayne Bodey and Patricia Bennett of Chattanooga. She is a recent graduate of Grace Baptist Academy and has played varsity volleyball since the eighth grade, being named team captain her senior year. She is a member of the National Honor Society, the National Beta Club and the high school choir. Bodey is a volunteer for the Red Cross blood drive as well as many fundraisers and projects at Grace Academy.
   
Rachel Reid Rachel Reid is the daughter of Paul and Dana Reid of Rock Spring. She is a recent graduate of Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe High School. She was involved in the National Society of High School Scholars, the National Honor Society and received the Georgia Certificate of Merit award.
   
Allie Durall Allie Durall is the daughter of James and Kimberly Durall of Rome. She is a recent graduate of Armuchee High School and has played basketball all four years, being named captain her senior year. She was nominated for the NAIA Champions of Character Award Scholarship and was named a Georgia Merit Scholar. Durall is involved in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and attends Pleasant Valley North Baptist Church of Rome.
   
Anna McBride Anna McBride is the daughter of LeBron and Debbie McBride of Rome. She is a recent graduate of Coosa High School and lettered in three sports including competitive cheerleading, basketball and cross country. She was voted “Best Dressed” for a senior superlative and was on the homecoming court, placing as second runner-up for the title of Ms. Eagle. McBride is involved in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and is a member of First Christian Church of Rome.
   
Toby Armellino Toby Armellino is the son of Jennifer Armellino of Rome and the grandson of Mrs. Sue Yarbrough and the late Toby Yarbrough of Rockmart. He is a recent graduate of Coosa High School, where he received the Georgia Certificate of Merit, the AP Scholar Award, and was in the top five in his class. Armellino’s interests include community service, reading, writing, theology and philosophy.
   
Kortni Kilgore Kortni Kilgore is the daughter of Clifton and Angela Kilgore of Bremen. She is a recent graduate of Bremen High School, where she completed college preparatory classes and career pathway classes while remaining on the Principal’s Honor Roll list all four years. Kilgore lettered in varsity softball and basketball and was a volunteer with the local soup kitchen, food drives and the local health department.
   
Hannah Swope Hannah Swope is the daughter of Charles and Marjorie Swope. She was a homeschool scholar, who was a recent finalist in the William E. Schmidt Youth Vocal Competition held at West Virginia University. She is an active member of the Greene Valley Presbyterian Church adult choir and praise band. Swope would like to obtain a degree in vocal performance.
   
Tyler Edgeman Tyler Edgeman is the son of David Edgeman and Carla Green. He is a recent graduate of Lafayette High School and lettered three years in a row in varsity football. This year he served as captain. Edgeman served four years in the JROTC program, was named Company Commander in the Rambler Battalion, and earned a medal for scholastic excellence.
