Shorter University art exhibit featuring work of student Samantha Floyd

April 11, 2011 - Shorter University senior Samantha Floyd will present an art exhibit April 10-15 in the university’s Arnold Art Gallery. Her exhibit, titled “Home,” is a collection of artwork that utilizes oil paints in the creation of paintings that represent and remind her of home. The paintings are done in the style of impressionist artists.

“I grew up in the Deep South, in northwest Georgia, as the youngest child of four. I want to always keep in mind my most valued memories at home, so, by painting them, I am creating a perpetual homage to them. Every painting captures a moment from a memory, a story, or a tangible object that has always been around and I that associate with home,” Floyd said.

A reception for Floyd’s exhibit will be held on Friday, April 15, from 7 until 8 p.m. in the gallery. The public is invited to attend, free of charge. The Arnold Art Gallery is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m.
