The Shorter University Chorale spring concert showcases music from upcoming tour to Spain

April 7, 2011 - The Shorter Chorale will present its spring concert on Saturday, April 16, at 7:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Rome. Tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for students and senior adults. Tickets may be reserved by contacting the Shorter University Box Office at (706) 233-7288 or by e-mailing boxoffice@shorter.edu.

Under the direction of Dr. Martha Shaw, this concert will feature Mass in G minor by British composer Ralph Vaughan Williams. Written for double choir and soloists, this difficult piece will be the centerpiece of the chorale’s upcoming performances in and around Madrid, Burgos, and Barcelona. Rounding out the program will be American folk song arrangements and spirituals, which were requested by the people of Spain during their recent preparatory visit.

The Shorter Chorale, founded in 1968, is widely regarded as one of the finest collegiate choral ensembles in the southeastern United States. In October 2007, it was featured on WABE 90.1 FM, the National Public Radio affiliate in Atlanta. In January 2007, the Chorale recorded its first professionally produced CD, A Savior From On High. The 2004-2005 season featured a tour of the great cathedrals and churches of England. The Chorale has been featured at the Georgia convention of the American Choral Directors Association, Georgia Music Educators In-Service Conferences, as well as the Georgia National Association of Teachers of Singing convention. This exceptional choir continues its traditions of excellence with many guest appearances throughout the United States
