William D. and Mary Ann Knight Scholarship Competition planned March 7
March 1, 2011 - The tenth annual William D. and Mary Ann Knight Performers’ Scholarship Competition will take place Monday, March 7, at 7:30 p.m. inside Brookes Chapel on the Shorter University campus.
The scholarship competition is designed to honor the outstanding contributions of the Knights, both longtime music faculty members of Shorter. Mr. Knight is retired distinguished professor of piano and taught at Shorter from 1963 until 2004. Mrs. Knight became a faculty member at Shorter in 1965 and retired in May of last year. Most recently, the Knights were selected as the 2010 National Teachers of the Year by the Music Teachers National Association (MNTA).
Exclusive to Shorter students, the finals will showcase top performers that will compete for two $1,000 scholarships; one in voice and one in keyboard. One winner per category is selected each year. The competition is open to the public. Tickets are $12 for general admission and $8 for students and senior adults. For additional information, contact the Shorter University box office by calling (706) 233-7288.
