Rome Braves General Manager Mike Dunn speaks at Shorter University

February 24, 2011 - Rome Braves General Manager Mike Dunn spoke to Shorter University students this morning as part of a guest speaker series that focuses on the communication industry.

Dunn’s lecture centered on sports communication and explained the concepts of sports broadcasting. Dunn is a graduate of Elon College where he achieved degree in sports marketing and corporate communication. In 2002, Georgia Trend magazine named Dunn one of their "40 Under 40," recognizing him as one of the top 40 business leaders under 40 in the state of Georgia. He was also named the General Manager of the Year (2003) for the South Atlantic League, and in 2008, Dunn was named the Executive of the Year by the SAL and the MILB.

The next event will be held on March 10. Jenny Beth Martin, co-founder of the Patriots Tea Party will be the featured speaker. Her lecture will focus on the power of social media in American culture. On April 14, Holly Lynch, owner of The Season, a local event-planning business, will speak on event planning.

The series is geared towards communication majors at Shorter; however, the public is invited to attend free of charge.
