The Shorter Chorale will present fall concert November 13

November 13, 2010 - The Shorter Chorale will present its fall concert on Saturday, Nov. 13, at 7:30 p.m. The concert will be held inside Brookes Chapel located on the university’s main campus.

The musical selections chosen for this year’s fall concert were influenced by the Chorale’s upcoming trip to Spain in May, according to director Dr. Martha Shaw. “The driving force behind the programming for the 2010-2011 season for the Shorter Chorale has been our eagerly anticipated trip to Spain. During my research of contemporary Spanish choral music, I came across a fascinating recording entitled España: A Choral Postcard from Spain. As most of the selections were not available in America, the conductor of the CD graciously directed me to composers and groups who had the compositions in Spain. I was thrilled when I began receiving emails containing these delightful compositions along with the composers’ blessings to perform them,” explained Dr. Shaw. “There are beautiful songs of homeland, reflections on the birth of Christ, the loss of youthful freedom with the advent of adult responsibility, celebrations with fireworks, and the overwhelming depth of true love. We are moved by the impressive work of these young composers, and I am sure our audience will be moved as well.”

The Shorter Chorale performs frequently during the year. In addition to the annual fall and spring concerts, the Chorale performs at the Feaste of Caroles and the Northwest Georgia Choral Festival, for various school functions, in churches throughout the southeast, and on a yearly tour. Repertoire is based predominantly on classical works of all eras, but also includes spirituals and jazz standards. Recent major works performed include Mozart’s Vesperae solennes de confessore. K.339,  the Poulenc Gloria, and the Mozart Requiem.

Tickets to the fall concert are $15 for general admission and $10 for students and seniors. To order, call the Shorter University Box Office at 706-233-7288 or boxoffice@shorter.edu <mailto:boxoffice@shorter.edu> .
