Artist Robert Cox’s work to be showcased in upcoming exhibit at Shorter College

September 17 - The artistic creations of Robert Cox, lecturer of art at the University of Tennessee, will be on display beginning Sept. 21 inside the Shorter College Arnold Gallery. A reception and artist lecture will be held Oct. 5 at 4 p.m. at the gallery.

Cox, who has taught drawing, painting, color theory and design, works with various media including oil on canvas, acrylic on canvas and paper, graphite on film, along with charcoal and conte on paper.

His work has been exhibited in more than 90 regional and national exhibitions of art, including 10 one-person exhibitions. Cox’s work reflects the biological richness of the Southern Appalachia region and is created primarily through direct observation. “My work represents literally thousands of miles hiked and canoed in the remaining old-growth forests, swamps, rivers and mountains of the South,” Cox said. Cox received his master’s degree in studio art from the University of Memphis. He also holds a degree in studio art from the University of North Alabama in Florence. In 1999, he was awarded a Fulbright Foreign Scholarship to study the art and culture of Turkey.

Admission to the exhibit and artist lecture is free. His work will be open to the public Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., until Oct. 5.
