August 13 - Shorter College will have the chance to showcase one of its latest achievements, as its School of Nursing will host an open house on Aug. 25, from 3 until 6 p.m.

Located at 20 Riverbend Drive in the Coosa Medical Group building, the open house will allow the public to tour the new facility and meet faculty and staff.

Tours and refreshments will start at 3 p.m., followed by an invocation from Shorter College Board of Trustees Chairman Dr. Nelson Price at 4 p.m. An official administrative welcome and introduction of the nursing program will also be part of the open house agenda. Potential nurses will be able to meet with nursing school faculty for informal advisement from 4:30 until 5:30 p.m. Tours of the facility and refreshments will again be offered from 5:30 until 6:30 p.m.

“The grand opening marks a milestone in the progress of bringing a Baccalaureate Nursing Program to Northwest Georgia,” said School of Nursing Dean Vanice Roberts.  Currently, there are no other pre-licensure baccalaureate programs in this area.

Shorter’s School of Nursing graduates will have a unique opportunity to impact the quality of patient care, not only at the local level, but also globally. “A strong component of the School of Nursing will be a Christian health care mission outreach to both the local communities and international population through a study abroad program planned in the curriculum,” said Roberts. “The educational experience of Shorter College School of Nursing graduates will prepare them to provide excellence in service, leadership and patient care, and exemplify the core Christian values of Shorter College.”
