Shorter College Announces Promotion, Tenure

April 27 - Two Shorter College faculty members were granted tenure and one was promoted during the spring meeting of the Shorter College Board of Trustees. Dr. Douglas “Chuck” Pearson was promoted to the rank of associate professor of physics and granted tenure. Dr. Linda Lister was also granted tenure.

Dr. Pearson has been a member of the Shorter College faculty since 2003. He teaches physics courses within the School of Sciences and Mathematics. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in physics from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and a doctorate in biophysics from the Ohio State University. His doctoral research concerned classical mechanics methods of modeling the interaction of electron transfer proteins, particularly plastocyanin and cytochrome f, in the light reactions of photosynthesis. He is a strong believer in the Christian life of the mind and a diligent explorer of the interfaces between faith and scientific questioning. Dr. Pearson holds an 'E' level coaching license from the Georgia State Soccer Association; he is also a popular music scholar.

Dr. Linda Lister Dr. Lister, a soprano, is associate professor of music, coordinator of vocal studies and opera director for the Shorter College School of the Arts. A graduate of Vassar College, she received the Master of Music degree in voice performance from the Eastman School of Music and the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in voice performance from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Her solo credits include performances with the Prague Radio Symphony, the Washington Symphony Orchestra, the Cambridge Opera (England), and the Cambridge Gilbert and Sullivan Society. She recently originated the role of Madge in the world premiere of Libby Larsen’s opera Picnic (2009). Dr. Lister’s students have won awards from National Association of Teachers of Singing and the Music Teachers National Association.
