Shorter College professor appears on classical recordings

Dr. Matthew Hoch April 8 - Shorter College Assistant Professor of Music Dr. Matthew Hoch is featured on two classical CD recordings that were released in March 2009.

Dr. Hoch appears as a soloist in “Psalm 27” on Kile Smith’s Vespers. Vespers, a world premiere recording conducted by Donald Nally of the Lyric Opera of Chicago, was recorded by The Crossing and the Piffaro Renaissance Band, two Philadelphia-based chamber ensembles that specialize in new music and Renaissance music, respectively.

Dr. Hoch also recorded Haydn’s Heiligmesse (Hännsler Classics) with the choir and orchestra of the Oregon Bach Festival, conducted by Helmuth Rilling. The Oregon Bach Festival (OBF) Choir is a 48-member all-professional choral ensemble comprised of professional singers from the United States, Canada and Germany. The OBF is the largest Bach Festival in North America. Dr. Hoch will sing his fifth season with the OBF in 2009.

The recording sessions for both CDs occurred in July 2008. The Heiligmesse was recorded in Eugene, Ore., on July 6 and 7, and the Vespers sessions occurred in Malvern, Penn. on July 21 through 23.
