Shorter College radio station receives upgrade
March 3 - Shorter College’s student-produced radio station, SC 49, now boasts a professional 13-channel audio mixer board thanks to the generosity of several local individuals.
According to Allen Dutch, instructor of communications at Shorter, the board was donated by Rome station WGPB and was coordinated through the efforts of Mills Fitzner, Shorter’s Dean of Liberal Arts Dr. Sabrena Parton and Georgia Highland College professor Dr. Renva Watterson. Watterson is a former professor of Shorter College and is a Shorter alumna.
Dutch said the piece of equipment was a welcome upgrade from the previous board students worked with. “It’s certainly a step up from what we had,” said Dutch. “I think it’s great that students now have a professional-grade board that came from an actual station. They’ll be able to use that and gain practical experience. ”
The station is broadcast through local channel 49 and is available to students on campus.
