Shorter staff member Emily Messer honored with prestigious award
March 3 - Emily Messer, Shorter College’s director of student activities, was honored with the Roger B. Winston Outstanding New Professional Award at the Georgia College Personnel Association’s (GCPA) 40th annual conference held in Athens last week.
The award is the highest honor given to young professionals in the GCPA organization and is based on the recipients’ dedication to their career. As a recipient, Messer will be highlighted in the organization’s newsletter and recognized at their national conference. “I was totally shocked and caught off guard with this award,” Messer said. “It was such an honor, and I was very excited to accept it.”

Messer holds a Bachelor of Science in English and a Master of Public Administration in education from Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Ala. In addition to her membership in the GCPA, she is involved in other professional organizations including the Association of Fraternity Advisors and the National Orientation Director's Association.
