Pianist to perform recital at Montgomery First Baptist
January 28 - Pianist David Oliver will present a concert Monday, Feb. 9, at First Baptist Church in downtown Montgomery. The free concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. and is open to the public. Oliver will perform works by J. S. Bach, Schubert, Chopin and Skryabin.
Oliver, currently serving as associate professor of music at Shorter College in Rome, Ga., was raised in Cali, Colombia, by Southern Baptist missionaries Jim and Marilyn Oliver.
He received degrees in piano from Baylor University in Waco, Texas; the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Md.; and the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. As a performing artist, Oliver has made solo, chamber ensemble, and orchestral appearances in cities across the United States including Atlanta, Baltimore, Dallas, Minneapolis, Philadelphia, Savannah, Tulsa, and Waco. |

A 2002 semi-finalist at the third Adilia Alieva International Piano Competition in Gaillard, France, Oliver won first prize at the 1984 Josef Hofmann International Piano Competition in Philadelphia and at the 1983 Baylor University Piano Concerto Competition in Waco. He has taught at Tarleton State in Texas, at Northland College in Wisconsin and at Central Michigan University.
