Guest speaker stresses importance of global learning, International education

Students at Shorter College learned the importance of studying globally Monday as Dr. Carolyn Bishop, president of the Consortium for Global Education (CGE), was the featured guest speaker during an afternoon presentation.

Bishop became the international director for the CGE in 1997 and was elected president of the organization in 2002.  Her areas of expertise include international program development, teacher and professional training, and development of a global worldview for strategic impact.

Organized in 1987 as a consortium to assist in the development of international education, CGE has more than 40 private U.S. universities and colleges – Shorter included -- all on the cutting edge of higher education. The CGE has helped place these member institutions in a global network for the 21st century.

Following Bishop’s presentation, Shorter professors Dr. James Scarry and Dr. Terry Morris shared experiences from living and teaching abroad. Monday’s presentation was part of Shorter’s International Education week that continues until Friday. Shorter College’s International Studies Program offers many opportunities throughout the year for students to travel and study abroad.
