“Music of Menotti” to fill Shorter’s Callaway Theatre
 
The Shorter College Opera Theatre will present its fall opera, “The Music of Menotti: The Old Maid and the Thief & The Medium,” beginning Thursday, Oct. 23, until Sunday, Oct. 25. Performances begin at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday in the Callaway Theatre on the Shorter College campus.

The opera is directed by Dr. Linda Lister, assistant professor of music, opera director and vocal coordinator at Shorter College. Musical direction will be provided by Ben Harris, instructor of accompanying and vocal coach.

The performance includes two one-act operas highlighting Gian-Carlo Menotti’s gift of soaring melody and intense drama. In The Old Maid and the Thief, two busy-body society ladies find some excitement in their lives when a handsome wanderer passes through town. In The Medium, a faux clairvoyant’s world turns upside down when she starts really hearing the voices of ghosts.
