Shorter College Trustees Approve New Contract For President Harold E. Newman The Executive Committee of Shorter College’s Board of Trustees has voted to approve a new contract for Dr. Harold E. Newman as president of the college. This four-year contract will go into effect July 1, 2008. Dr. Newman has served as president of the college since Jan. 16, 2006, and had served as interim president since Jan. 1, 2005. In announcing the new contract, Shorter College Trustee Chairman Dr. Nelson Price said, “Excellence deserves rewarding, and I am most pleased Dr. Newman’s exceptional job as president of the college has been rewarded by a four-year extension of his contract. From a spiritual perspective, I am convinced our Lord had him in training as provost of the school for 20 years to enable him to lead the college at this opportune moment.

“His regard for the Rome/Floyd community has motivated him to aspire for Shorter to be a Christian College Committed to Excellence in Education excelling in academics and athletics at levels of which the community can be proud. Progress in these areas is good reason for his extension. It is an honor to be aligned with him in helping Shorter fulfill its strategic role in developing well-rounded students. The way he has led hitherto gives confidence in what will be achieved henceforth.”

Dr. Newman expressed his appreciation to the trustees for “this affirmation” of his work as president, adding “I am honored by the board giving me the opportunity to continue to lead Shorter College toward achieving our vision. I look forward to continuing the strong partnership with Dr. Price, the entire Board of Trustees, and the Georgia Baptist Convention as we move forward.”

The new contract was approved during a meeting held Friday, June 20.
