Shorter College Theatre Department to present ‘Guys and Dolls’ April 18-20

The Shorter College Theatre Department will present its spring musical, “Guys and Dolls,” Friday through Sunday, April 18-20. Performances begin at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 2 p.m. on Sunday in the Rome City Auditorium, 601 Broad St. General admission tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for students and senior adults. For tickets, contact the Shorter College box office at (706) 233-7288 or boxoffice@shorter.edu.

With the curtain opening in New York City, “Guys and Dolls” introduces audiences to a cast of legendary characters. Sarah Brown is out to reform the evildoers of Times Square while Sky Masterson, the slick, high-rolling gambler, woos her on a bet and ends up falling in love. Adelaide and Nathan Detroit have been engaged for 14 years, and perhaps it is her continued unmarried status that brings out Adelaide’s chronic illness. With numbers like “Adelaide’s Lament,” “Luck Be a Lady” and “Sit Down You’re Rockin’ the Boat,” the musical has been an audience favorite for more than 50 years.

David Alford, an artist-in-residence at the Tennessee Repertory Theatre in Nashville, will guest direct “Guys and Dolls.”
