Shorter College students stay ‘Up ‘til Dawn’ for St. Jude’s
Students at Shorter College stayed up late on Thursday, Feb. 22, but this time it was not for studying. Instead, they celebrated raising $14,430 through Up ‘til Dawn, a program dedicated to the life-saving work of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
This is the first year that Shorter students have organized this fund-raiser and celebration event, which was held at Calvary Baptist Church, 101 Broadus Road, from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m.
The Up ‘til Dawn event is the culmination of three months of fund-raising activities to benefit the children of St. Jude. An executive board of nine Shorter students organized a letter-writing campaign in November where approximately 100 other Shorter students sent out letters to family and friends requesting support of St. Jude’s cancer research.
During the evening, students were entertained by local performers including Soul Forgiven, Laura Bowen and Shorter’s own Somethin’ Else. Participants also played games and competed in relays. At the end of the event the grand total was announced.
