Student Newspaper Earns Second Place for Layout and Design
in Georgia College Press Association Competition
Shorter College’s student newspaper, The Periscope, earned a second place award in Layout and Design in the 2006 Georgia College Press Association competition. The Periscope competed against other publications from Georgia colleges with less than 5,000 students. Shorter’s entry included papers produced during the 2006 calendar year, which spanned two academic years.
Receiving the award at the GCPA meeting were Carrie Fitzsimmons, editor-in-chief for the 2006-07 academic year, and Meghan Holder, who serves as managing editor. Other members of this year’s staff include John Bailey, opinions editor; Erin Miller, sports editor; Heather Michot, news editor; Hannah Orr, online editor; and Jonathan Howard, entertainment designer.
The staff for the 2005-06 academic year included Christy Cervantes, editor-in-chief; Grant Kersey, managing editor; Carrie Fitzsimmons, features editor; Meghan Holder, opinions editor; Erin Miller, sports editor; and Heather Michot, news editor.
Allison Hattaway, assistant professor of communication, serves as the newspaper’s adviser.
