Men's and women's soccer advance to conference tournament
Following a road trip to Southern Wesleyan this weekend, both Hawks' soccer teams have a busy week ahead of them: they will both be competing in the Southern States Athletic Conference's tournament.
The Hawk men will be making their first postseason appearance ever, while it will be the third trip ever for the women.
Both Shorter teams play Tuesday, with the men heading to fourth-seeded Reinhardt at 2 p.m. and the women hosting fifth-seeded Brenau at 7 p.m.
“We’re somewhat similar teams, so it should be a pretty good matchup,” Shorter coach Josh Severns said of the Reinhardt men. “Their coach has done a really good job of preparing them for big games and I don’t see Tuesday being any different.”
Shorter beat Reinhardt 1-0 in Rome in the teams’ only matchup of the season.
The Lady Hawks also pulled off a 2-0 win over Brenau this season, but Severns says that both teams are completely different now.
“This is the goal that we set early in the season, of going to the conference tournament,” Severns said. “Just to be here is good. We feel like we’re right with these teams.”
