Metanoia Week 2011
September 11-17

This year we have replaced the phrase “Christian Focus Week” with “Metanoia Week.” 

Metanoia (met-an'-oy-ah) is the Greek word for repentance. The Bible uses this word in several ways. For instance, all born-again Christians have experienced an initial metanoia—turning from sin while turning to Christ. However, there is also a sense in which metanoia is a continuing enterprise. According to Richard Owen Roberts, “Repentance is an ongoing process . . . a day-by-day, year-after-year process of refusing to follow sin and self and of deliberately following Christ.”   Since Acts 3:19 commands, “Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord,” we all need initial and continued metanoia.

For this reason, Shorter University is encouraging you to participate in the following special and daily events:

    • Where: Brookes Chapel 
    • When: 6:30 PM
    • Speaker: Dr. Bruce Ashford

  • Wednesday, September 14th
    • What: Attend a local church or college ministry.  If you don’t attend a Wednesday college ministry we recommend the following:
      • The Process—the college ministry of West Rome Baptist Church. 8 PM
      • Crave—the college ministry of 5 th Ave Baptist Church.  7PM

  • Thursday, September 15th

    • What: Baptist Collegiate Ministry (BCM)
    • Where: Austin Moses Room
    • When: 7:30 PM

Daily Events

 

  • Personal  Prayer and Scripture Reading
    • Where: In your favorite quite place
    • When: Early in the morning is best.
    • What: If you don’t have a Bible reading plan, try reading three chapters of John’s Gospel every day this week.

     

  • Corporate Prayer
    • Where: In the FSU Prayer Chapel
    • When: M-F 8 AM to 8:30 AM and 4:30 PM to 5:00 PM
