FALL 2009
Day set aside to 'Celebrate Shorter'
April 1 was a day for serious business as the Shorter community paused for Celebrate Shorter, an annual recognition of student achievement. Faculty, staff and students set aside the routine of class schedules and committee meetings to attend student research symposia, artistic presentations and awards ceremonies.
Phyllis Tickle (’55), pictured below, founding editor of the Religion Department of Publishers Weekly, the international journal of the book industry, was the keynote speaker. She delighted the crowd that filled the Winthrop-King Centre with stories of Shorter from the 1950s, when she was a student on campus.
