SPRING 2008
Plans moving forward for event
Following the public announcement that Shorter College and partners Rome/Floyd County will host the 2008 and 2009 NAIA National Football Championships, attention turned to the plans for the game and surrounding activities. Shorter Athletic Director Bill Peterson recruited Rome attorney Bob Berry to join him in chairing a host committee, which comprises local community members and college staff.
The goal, Mr. Peterson explained, is to create a week-long championship celebration that generates excitement for the game. Much early work has focused on ensuring that Barron Stadium meets the needs of television cameras and other media since the game will be broadcast nationwide on CSTV. The committee is also negotiating with CSS network, which is more prevalent in the South, about also broadcasting the game.
Another key priority is recruiting event sponsors. “We are trying to find a game sponsor: a company that sells throughout the country and wants national exposure,” Mr. Peterson said. “In addition, we will have several other sponsorship levels for businesses that would like to partner with us in presenting this event.” Alumni or friends who are interested in more information about sponsorship opportunities are asked to contact Mr. Peterson at 706-233-7469 or bpeterson@shorter.edu.
