A day for the history books

New hawk flying over front sign

Awesome.

That one word sums up the events surrounding Shorter’s June 1 university transition perfectly. Awesome ceremony, awesome people and awesome events led to an entirely awesome day.

A 10 a.m. unveiling ceremony gave more than 150 faculty, staff, students, alumni and community leaders a first look at the new Shorter University brand. “As we change our name to Shorter University, I want to firmly state that Shorter remains committed to offering an excellent education within a decidedly Christian environment,” said President Dr. Harold Newman during the morning ceremony.

“To many, the word “university” brings to mind a large, impersonal institution where students are merely a number. Our transition to Shorter University does not change the essential nature of Shorter. We are a private institution and will remain so. We pride ourselves on our caring, Christian environment, and that commitment will not change.”

Have van, will travel (to a city near you!)

We’re so excited about Shorter’s new name and we want to give you a chance to get excited, too! That’s why we’re taking it to the streets by way of the Official Shorter University Road Tour. We’ve already made the rounds to our Atlanta campuses, and now we are heading out for the long haul. The road tour will include special events in cities such as Tifton, Tampa, Savannah, Chattanooga and Dalton. Go to www.ShorterRoadTour.com to see a complete list of tour stops.

Mudy’s reign just won’t stop; sophomore now owns four national championships

Just when you think you have seen it all from Justyna Mudy, the Lady Hawks' long distance sensation finds yet another way to pull off the improbable.

Mudy, the most decorated athlete in Shorter’s history, added two more national championships to her rapidly growing collection, capturing the 3,000 meter steeplechase national championship and the 5,000 meter run national crown at the 2010 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in Marion, Ind.
