January 2010
The future dawns brightly for Shorter
It’s gearing up to be a great year at Shorter – just ask President Harold Newman.
Five years since he took the helm of Shorter College, Dr. Newman is eyeing the new decade with a great sense of optimism. The veteran educator, now in his 25th year at Shorter, recently shared his views on the accomplishments of the first five years of his presidency and on 2010, which he describes as promising to be “one of the most exciting times in Shorter’s 137-year history.”

Former Shorter student serving in devastated Haiti
Like most Shorter graduates, you’ve probably said earnest prayers for the people of Haiti and maybe even sent financial help or donations of clothes or food to the disaster-stricken country. But for Bruce Poss, who attended Shorter, helping from afar just wasn’t enough.
Bruce is currently in Haiti, serving in his role as Disaster Relief Coordinator for the North American Mission Board (NABM). He is part of an assessment team that is surveying the country in preparation for the Southern Baptist Disaster Relief Response. His daughter, Carol Poss, is a freshman at Shorter, studying early childhood education. Carol keeps up to date with her father as he works alongside of the International Missions Board through Facebook and the NAMB Web site. |
