Below is a list of community service events undertaken by various student groups at Shorter University.
BAPTIST COLLEGIATE MINISTRIES Gifts of Georgia Baptists through the Cooperative Program, and the ongoing fundraising efforts of Shorter students and the Baptist Collegiate ministry, enable us to partner in fulfilling the Great Commission. Through organizations such as SendMeNow, Hands On and International World Changers, Shorter students participate in many missions trips throughout the year as well as during summer break.
SORORITIES AND FRATERNITIES The mission of the Shorter University Fraternity and Sorority Life is to enhance the university experience through scholarship, community service, philanthropy, leadership, and social interaction. Phi Mu contributes over $500,000 annually to the Children's Miracle Network. Phi Mu Chapters support 170 hospitals throughout the country. Zeta Tau Alpha, founded in 1898, is the 3rd largest national sorority in the United States. Stretching from coast to coast, our sisters contribute their time and talents towards spreading breast cancer awareness to women. Collectively, ZTA has donated $1.6 million to support breast cancer education and awareness since 1992. Epsilon Sigma is a local service and social sorority present on "the hill" since 1879. They have the opportunity to serve the Rome community by working with local nursing homes, participating in yard cleanups, and volunteering for other local organizations. Chi Phi was founded on the basis of Truth, Friendship, and Personal Integrity. These are timeless values, which guide the fundamental purposes of the fraternity. Their community service projects benefit the Boys and Girls Club. Delta Sigma Phi has a long history of success at Shorter and nationally. In its 108 year history, the fraternity has grown to become one of the most powerful national organizations. Their community service projects benefit the American Red Cross.
LEARNING COMMUNITIES In their first year at Shorter, Freshman are introduced to the concept of community service. In addition to the learning in the classroom and fun events as a group, a third essential component to Shorter’s Learning Community experience is the community service opportunities that each LC completes. Check out the list on the LC COMMUNITY SERVICE page to see what previous Learning Communities have completed through their community service projects.
LC 7 (2011-2012) – Volunteered with Jesus in the Park (food distribution event)
