FALL 2008 CHAPEL SERVICES
"Learning from the ministry of christ "
Here at Shorter College, the “Body of Christ” has so much to learn from the example of Christ’s ministry to the world. Every aspect of his life & every teaching in His Word contain so many unique, life-transforming lessons. If we are going to carry on his work in the world today, then we must be passionate and familiar with the life of sacrificial love that he embodied.
No doubt, we have come a long way; but, we’ve got a long way to go before we can say with Paul in Colossians 1:24, “Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh I am filling up what is lacking in Christ’s afflictions for the sake of his body, that is, the church.” That kind of person, that kind of minister, that kind of teacher, that kind of Christian is what we truly long to be here at Shorter. This semester during chapel we will be focusing on Christ’s ministry to the world in hopes that we will become better cross-bearers ourselves.
Mission
More than anything, students need to hear the Word of God. It is the spiritual weapon that penetrates through bone and marrow into the soul, and transforms it for eternity. But students also have a great need today to be inspired by the lives of other great men and women of faith. Students need to see and know that they don’t have to settle for a life that is guided by the expectations of this world. I believe that God is raising up a generation of people who refuse to settle for mediocrity in their faith, and who want to make a difference for the Kingdom of God.
